I'll take it BLACK

Black as in Black music. Yes there was Black Music (capital M was intentional) before rap. Although it started in the early 1900's with Ragtime, however I'm sure this can be well debated but in my humble opinion it peaked in the mid 70's to early 90's. By this time all of its genre's had a chance to mature and marinate. You got this beautiful tapestry of blues, jazz, spirituals (soul) that wove together the joy and trauma of 400 years of being BLACK in America. They casually called it R&B but it was so much more than that. Like Espresso that although can be bittersweet it's delicious.
